Literacy Week!
Swanavon School is once again celebrating Literacy Week from January 22nd-26th. We have some fun events planned to promote literacy!
Our library will be set up like a CAMPGROUND during Literacy Week! We refer to our library this week as ‘Camp Read’! This is a long standing Swanavon tradition. It is a total camping experience, complete with tents, lawn chairs and even a faux campfire! Throughout the week we will have guest readers from the community sharing their love of literacy and their most treasured books. Students will be spending time reading in Camp Read during their regular library times, as well as a few other times when some special guests come in to read to us.
Please note that there will NOT be regular library exchanges this week.
To kick off Literacy Week, on Monday, January 22nd, K-6 families are invited to stay at school from 8:30 until 9:00 to read together in your child’s classroom or in the halls.
**Preschool families come from 10:30, 11:00, 2:00 and 2:30 (reading in PreK wing).
Tuesday, January 23rd is Read My Shirt Day- Have your child wear a shirt with words on it.
Wednesday, Jan. 25th is Dress up as an Idiom Day. Students can dress up as a “play on words”. For example, raining cats and dogs...lots of great ideas found online!
Thursday, January 25th is tip your hat to literacy day- Put on your thinking caps (wear a hat)!
To wrap up literacy week, you are most welcome to come and read again with your children on Friday, Jan. 26th from 2:25-2:50.
A fun BINGO Game will also be sent home for students to play at home throughout Literacy Week. PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS RETURNED BY Jan. 31st – Completed BINGO games will be submitted to a draw for the opportunity to win some great prizes!
We look forward to this exciting week and celebrating literacy! Thank you for your continued support.
